Compromise Indeed! Is that what Republicans in congress are planning? I think their Tea Party masters may have something to say about that.
I have been saying for sometime now that the Republicans have made a very grave strategic error. They continued to campaign against the budget even after they won in November. This in turn hardened their base and kept their blood hot (and unreasonable). It's inexplicable because they know they can't pass anything without the President or the Senate, so trying to gain leverage by threatening a government shutdown was either naive or stupid. The only thing I can think of is they thought this President was so weak that he would cave into all their demands?
However, now they are in a box and have now started trying to get moderate Democrats on board their sinking ship, no thanks! I don't think Democrats, conservative or not will side with the same people who tried to knock them off last time by demonizing their health care votes, at least not without giving up a lot of cuts and bye, bye to the non-fiscal social experiments (riders) they injected into their bill...ain't gonna happen.
