Republicans Have Voted To Destroy Medicare

Republicans today voted to end Medicare for those under 55 years of age. Instead they propose to give Seniors who come of age vouchers that will force seniors to pony up more of their limited resources towards insurance premiums as the plans will not keep up with the rate of health care inflation.

Benjy Sarlin at TPM writes that Insurance companies may try to kill the bill in its crib as they would be left on the hook insuring older Americans with no subsidies from the federal government.

This summer and during next years elections, democrats will start to hang this vote around the necks of the their political opponents. Seniors will be the target of democrats as they willingly tell the story of how Republicans tried to kill Medicare.
