The Republicans Will Roll the Dice With their Majority

I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Republicans will risk over reaching their mandate by not just shaving Medicare but killing it?

It just does not make sense to me that they would have their caucus commit to voting on killing Medicare. If they had a credible plan to fix it or change it around the edges, pretty it up maybe, but they are proposing to kill it? What?

In a recent poll 76% of Americans said they were opposed to significant cuts to Medicare, 76 freakin %...it is either the height of political naivete or they are so sheltered within the fox news spin cycle that they just don't realize what they are doing is political suicide.

The Wall Street Journal's, Jonathan Weisman points out that the Ryan plan is a huge gamble for the GOP. Weisman points out that those who retire after the next decade would no longer have Medicare. Instead a Federal voucher that is tied to the rate of inflation instead of Health Care inflation, which means those who are currently under 45 years old would have their out of pocket costs for premiums rise faster than traditional Medicare recipients. Every year the affordability of Health Care will be diminished for those who are nearing retirement and whose retirement incomes were severely affected by the current recession.

"Under the Ryan proposal, people who retire after 2021 would no longer have access to the     government-run fee-for-service health-insurance program that has been a bedrock for seniors since Lyndon Johnson was president."
And he does this all the while wanting to cut Corporate tax rates for 35% to 25%? It makes no sense what they are doing, the optics and the politics are all wrong.  Republicans are wanting to slash and burn Seniors health programs while giving even more money to the rich. According to Politico's Jake Sherman and Richard Cohen Republicans will be unified around Ryan's 2012 budget blueprint. Reminds me of the old Pirate movies where the victims are forced at sword point to walk the plank.
